Closing your account
You can close your KSIJ Connect account yourself, at any time, from inside the app. You do not need to email anyone and you do not need our permission. You can also write to admin@ksijyouth.com.
How to close it
- Open KSIJ Connect and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Close my account.
- Type your @username to confirm, and press Close my account.
It works the same way on the app and on the website, and it is available whether your membership is approved, still awaiting review, or was declined. Withdrawing one of the consents the Services cannot run without (in Settings → Privacy and consents) leads to the same step.
What happens
Your profile will disappear straight away. We delete your data within 30 days, and from backups within a further 60 days. Messages you sent will stay with the people you sent them to, shown as from "Former member". Some records must be kept for longer by law, as explained in our Privacy Policy. This cannot be undone.
If you only want to stop being discoverable, set your profile visibility to Hidden in Settings instead — that keeps your account and your conversations. You can also download a copy of your data from Settings first.
What is deleted
- Your profile, photo and banner, and the image files themselves;
- your skills, and every endorsement you gave or received;
- your connections and any pending connection requests;
- your posts, comments and appreciations, in the feed and in groups;
- the opportunities you posted, and the applications sent to them; the applications you sent to other members’ opportunities, together with the CV copies they carried; your saved opportunities and the CV on your profile;
- your mentor profile, availability and every mentoring request to or from you;
- message requests you sent that were never accepted;
- your notifications, and notifications about you sent to other members;
- your sign-in sessions, app tokens and push notification devices;
- your nominee, your correspondence with the review team, and your reports to the support team with any files attached to them.
Your data leaves the live service the moment you confirm — well within the 30 days the Privacy Policy allows — and leaves our backups within a further 60 days. Backups are never used to restore a closed account.
What is kept, and why
- Messages you sent. They stay with the people you sent them to, in their conversations, shown as from “Former member”. Nobody can write to you there.
- Groups you belonged to. You are removed from every group. If you were a group’s last admin, the longest-standing member becomes admin so the group survives; if there was nobody else, the group and its discussions are deleted with you.
- Consent records. A minimal record of each consent you gave or withdrew — what it was, the version of the notice, the date and how — is kept for 3 years without your name, so that we can prove consent was given, as the Privacy Policy explains. Then it is deleted.
- Data rights requests and grievances. Kept for 3 years after the matter is closed, as the Privacy Policy explains, then deleted.
- Moderation and approval records, without your identity. We keep the fact that a decision or a moderation action happened, and when — regulators and our own accountability require it — but your identity is stripped from those records, so they no longer point to you.
- Your @username. It is retired permanently and cannot be taken by anyone else, so nobody can later appear to be you.
Closing your account does not delete your One ID, which belongs to the World Federation and is not ours to remove. Your sign-in identity is released, so you can apply again as a new member if you ever wish to.
